Most versatile microwave I have ever owned! - From Carolyn Keller @amazon.com
Treated myself to all new small kitchen appliances when my husband and I bought another house. Love gadgets and tech, especially in the kitchen ... but like everyone else, expect them to work, be worth it. Had fun researching every purchase. My kitchen counter space is limited - wanted multi purpose. Never liked the taste of microwaved foods - in the past just used for warm ups etc. ... until I bought this microwave! It delivers. Actually does grill, roast, bake ... I love it! Liked it so much, bought one for my son, who lives in cold, wet climate and cooking out was always a struggle. This is one great oven.
lovin' this oven - From Kathryn J Woods @amazon.com
This oven does everything. It's fast and strong. I have cooked a whole meal at one time (and not a frozen one). I'm so glad my old Sharp died so I could get this one
Great, Fast, Even and Easy to use - from Ira Klotzko @amazon.com
Not much to say here. This is a very versatile oven. I like it because I am single and don't use my oven a lot. It doubles as a toaster, roaster and microwave. The grill elements heat up very quickly so making grilled cheese in < 5 minutes. Water boils (uncovered) in < 2.5 minutes, uncovered it should boil faster.
It's great.
Better than expected - From C G King @amazon.com
In addition to microwaving operations which are a no-brainer, I've used the automated functions for grilling and roasting to assess the result and see what timing the oven used. Twenty minutes seemed a long time for hamburgers, but they were perfectly done. Two large chicken breasts cooked beautifully, as well. The salmon steak was also grilled to perfection. Although the weights of these items didn't exactly match the choices given, the results couldn't have been better. For example, the salmon steak was ¾ lb and I chose ½ lb rather than 1 lb, deciding to err on the side of less cooked, knowing I could use the `minute plus' button to extend time if I wanted to. I like my salmon medium so I was very pleased with the result without adding any time.
I've worried forever about the hot air convection process drying things out, which has kept me from trying this technology sooner, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The cooked food is much juicier than when cooked in a standard oven, and not greasy like when sautéed on the stovetop.
I purchased the Sharp R820JS oven to gain counter space by replacing both an ancient toaster oven and a too-small microwave (but not my toaster), and also to avoid using my regular oven for small portions. I'll probably end up using the Sharp a lot more than I'd planned since the results thus far are outstanding. I like that the unit vents at the back rather than either side so I can put it up close to the wall (they say to leave 2" clearance) on the side where it is most convenient for me to open the door. The motor extension in the back keeps it far enough from the back wall for air circulation and still leaves about 5-6" of counter in front of the unit. The outside of the oven gets warm during grilling, but not hot. The inside gets hot, of course, so potholders are needed to remove cooked contents. I'm glad I converted to this technology and the Sharp oven was a great choice. I based my buying decision on other reviews and appreciate the input as it helped me know what to look for and helped make my convection education easy and rewarding. I definitely recommend this oven.
Awesome - From R Secrest @amazon.com
I bought this microwave 5 months ago. I use it for everything! Baking, roasting, grilling and just to heat things up. Now that it is just the 2 of us at home I don't have to use my oven anymore. I cooked a pork roast the other day using the roast option. It came out perfect! This microwave does everything. At this time I have absolutely no complaints.
I LOVE this Product! - From juju @amazon.com
this is the best countertop item i own! it is a combo microwave/oven/grill, and is perfect for small meals, tho it can fit a large chicken in on the rack with no problem. no need to heat up the house with the big oven in the summer, and much less wasting of electricity (i have an electric stove and oven). it has great features that work well overall. the automatic settings for cooking have cooked everything to perfection, better than i can by doing it manually. i don't know how it does it!
the only time i have to override and go manual is for baked potatoes (which, to be honest, really are not perfect in a microwave, they always get a bit hard on the bottoms). i found a way around that tho; microwave for 3/4 of the time, then bake for the last bit. they come out like a full-on baked potato, but only take around 15 - 20 minutes.
i use the manual setting for the grill and convection oven a lot as well, for additional control over the cooking. but for someone who wants an all-purpose combo oven, i cannot praise this highly enough.
i have had mine for 5 years, and it is still cooking perfectly. i just passed it to my daughter, who is thrilled to have it! i am buying a new one this week! yay for me!
Okay, so there is a selection of glowing reports on the Sharp R820JS. But what about the things that maybe aren't so great about it? Are there any? Yes, there are. So, head on over to our Pros and Cons page and see if you believe the Pros far outweigh the cons. I do! And often times, there is a way around something that has been perceived as a con. All in all, the Sharp R820JS is a solid machine, and something you can buy with confidence, either for yourself, or maybe as a great kitchen gift for someone else.
